INTROMy name is Omar Alrawi, I'm a Sydney based Industrial Designer with an Honours degree in sustainable design, majoring in Design Thinking.4 AREAS OF DESIGN I specialise in 4 areas of design that I am most passionate about : Footwear Design and Development, Food Packaging Design, Branding and POP design. I have extensive experience in these areas having worked and designed for multi-national companies.
PASSIONATE ABOUT FOOTWEAR DESIGNI particularly love designing for the footwear industry and working with fashion forward brands that are design driven. I have had the pleasure of working with top international brands such as Ozify, Seer Footwear, Basement HQ, Marco Gianni, Mosley, Silverlining, Bloch International, Martico Footwear and Drover Footwear. I have had the pleasure of seeing many of my designs reach mass production with international success.PERSONAL MISSION FOR FOOTWEAR DESIGN IN AUSTRALIA Further into my personal mission is setting a high benchmark for Australian designers in the footwear industry. There are limited opportunities for young designers to develop a strong foundation for design methodologies that can pave way for international recognition within the footwear design profession. Australia has tremendously talented designers but unfortunately focus is no longer place of Australian manufacturing of products and many industries died along side with the art form that drives them.
THE NEED FOR BETTER STRUCTURE AND COURSEFootwear design courses are available only in a few design faculties in Sydney and Melbourne but do not provide students with overall knowledge and skill sets to manage the entire process from design methodology to manufacturing process to retail commercial models to market analysis.
A footwear designer is not simply the aesthetic person but rather should be given skills to be able to lead a development studio, establish businesses, footwear retail chains, manufacturing/factories, wholesale to retail distribution, material specialist developers and so on that would result in market growth and potential international trading for the Australia once again.MY TALKS AND LECTURES in recent years , I am seeing more fashion and lifestyle organisations take a leading role to highlight the importance of Australian fashion manufacturing and support designers by giving them an international platform to showcase their talents.TAKING THE LEADI have recently been invited to speak to a number of audiences from fashion schools that want to incorporate footwear as part what they offer, universities that are interested to design a biodegradable or sustainable materials for outsoles, insoles and uppers and I am hopeful with even humanitarian organisations approaching me to setup programs for refugees to learn about the industry and help revitalise the art form of shoe making.
GQ AUSTRALIA AND OTHER LEADERSI have also had the pleasure to work with GQ Australian, Lynx, Jules Tognini from Lil Off the Top and ran campaigns to shed light on footwear rdesign, personal styling and individuality - Check out the latest on this via this link: Click here to watch the GQ video
